Twitter CEO teases idea of edit button

After years of Twitter users asking for an edit button it seems that the app has finally addressed their concerns. Twitter CEO and Co-founder, Jack Dorsey, spoke about the ongoing issue, on Joe Rogan’s podcast, admitting that the company is seriously considering the edit option.

However, the edit button may not come in the form that users have wanted. The company has said that the edit button would need to be very carefully considered in order for it to not affect the immediate nature of Twitter.

Dorsey admitted that any edit button wouldn’t necessarily allow you to edit tweets from the past. Rather the feature could allow a “5-second to 30-second delay in sending” much like with emails. Thus, allowing you to retract and edit a tweet immediately after posting, in this very restrictive time frame.

Dorsey admitted that with the app; “You want to be fast and you just want to be in the moment. You want to be raw. But if you’re in the context of considering what the President just did or making a particular statement, then you probably need some more time.”

The edit feature that Dorsey is considering, therefore, wouldn’t necessarily affect the live nature of dynamically tweeting a sports game. Additionally, this specific edit button would allow the “real-time nature of the conversational flow” of tweeting to be maintained.

So, overall it seems that the edit button users were hoping for won’t be coming any time soon. However, a different type of editing may be in the pipeline for the app. Dorsey didn’t confirm any dates for the edit button, yet, it seems that this interview has addressed rumours that Twitter previously wouldn’t comment on.
